This is our day to tour San Francisco. I am excited to be here. I was once here 10 years ago and loved it. So I have been looking forward to revisting a couple of places. However, the traffic we encounter makes it a very challenging and tiring day.
We first visit Seal Point Park in San Mateo. We hike up a short trail to the top and the view is unbelievable. We can see the whole bay and the airport and all the planes landing as they come down over the bay. The whole park is huge and people are riding bikes and walking around the bay area. So, so pretty and massive!
Then we locate a restaurant for lunch. We eat at Elephant Restaurant, also located on the bay closer to the airport, so we eat while we watch the planes land
Then we travel toward the Golden Gate Bridge. This pretty quickly turns into a nightmare as about a million other people are doing the same. Lesson learned. Take public transpiration to the GG Bridge or to get anywhere in San Fran. We sit in stop and go traffic for over an hour and FINALLY get to cross the bridge. It is awesome and I am glad we did it, but I would not sit in traffic like that to do it again!
We then travel up to Muir Woods to see the Redwoods. However, we were once again confronted with people problems. We could find no where to park. We drove around for about 30 minutes. The only place to park was a mile away and it was cold, foggy, and windy. So a very disappointed me left without seeing the Redwoods.
We then had to wait in traffic AGAIN to go back across the GG bridge. By that time it was around 5:30. We were able to drive to Fisherman's Wharf and park. It is huge and so we walked and walked and finally made it to Pier 39 to shop for a while. We really enjoyed seeing the navy ships and submarines and Alcatraz across the bay.
We finally left there and managed to get back to our hotel, exhausted. And thankful that we live in WNC and do not have to deal with that traffic!!!
Tomorrow we finally leave the California coast and head east. I will miss the beautiful coast, but look forward to adventures ahead.
