Dragging ourselves away from our beloved Cratagena we set to sea with the San Blas islands in Panama on the radar. Travel was by a 40 foot yaught with 7 other travellers all of us having thrown our faith into the hands of our French Colombian (what a mix!) Captain and his little dog Reina. I am not sure if you have ever been at sea for longer than a day, but the 36 hourcrossing in rough seas took its toll on all! Needless to say not much of the Captains chowder stayed down!
But it was worth it. On the morning of the third day we awoke to find ourselves moored in a bay of palm fringed, white beaches with not a hotel or tourist in sight. The San Blas are unique in that they are autonomous to the Kuna tribe which do not allow any interference from Panama and whom guard against any hint of mass tourism.
After 3 days snorkling in crystal blue waters, having beach bbq and reminding ourselves how priveleged we are, we baorded a tiny twin engine plane on the "larger" island of El Provenir bound for Panama city. I hope the pictures do this place justice because we found it pure paradise! More thumbnails ...
