We're now in a place called Diu, it's a tiny island off the coast of Gujurat and until 1961 it was Portugese. It has beaches but they r nothing compared to Goa. The main reason to come here is that it has a lovely relaxed pace of life and is not touristy. There is a Portugese fort and lots of old Churches to visit. Last time we were in India, Diu was legendary among backpackers because it has the cheapest beer in India, only 40rs for a large Kingfisher, normally (apart from Goa where they r 50-60) they r at least 100rs. The downside of this is the groups of p*ssed up Indian male tourists who like nothing more than a good leer (and have been known to perform unsavoury right handed antics behind the bushes while watching white female sunbathers), but we stay away from them!

We then went to Diu, arriving marked a special occasion, the final room search. (We've booked places in Jodhpur and Delhi). Off we went to the romantic guesthouse in an old church...we thought it was a bit pricy for what you got but decided to go for character rather than a souless block hotel. We had lunch in a restaurant (the Apana) with about 1000 waiters who stood and watched us eat (literally right next 2 the table) and whipped away every plate/glass the second we finished with it. There was a couple next to us (indians) who belched like animals every 2 mins I turned round to give the man a withering look, and it was the woman!! We looked for another place for dinner but they were all dead and the Apana was bustling so we went back. i started to feel rough as soon as we ordered and didn't eat my dinner, yes my welcome to Diu was food poisoning!

I woke up the next morning in the "character filled" room with a backed up toilet, no hot shower and rising damp and decided to go to the souless hotel. they gave us a good discount and now we r in a lovely clean modern room for only 60p more! We've also found a nice little backpackers restaurant, just what I needed after being ill so things are coming together here. this morning we did the cultural tour of Diu, took about an hour! We did see a lovely old church tho and yesterday we went to the fort which was fantastic, really untouched and therefore evocotive of old times.

Anyway I'm off for some of that cheap beer now I'm better! Can't wait to see u all soon, a week today til we leave, yay!
