We boarded the night bus to udaipur with trepidation, this was our first ever "sleeper bus". you get a berth instead of a seat. Apart from the fact that the double berth was smaller than a single bed it was actually ok, we got some sleep despite the road being pretty much unsealed all the way. It was also a bonus not to have the usual neck crick which comes from sitting up on a bumpy bus all night. We set off to find a hotel, we didn't look our best cos I had Amy Winehouse hair and we were in our "scruffs". we'd decided to go for a nice room with some of our weding present money from our friends. The first few places looked down their noses at us but we didn't like their rooms anyway so we kept looking. Normally we are happy with "clean" but when we r spending a lot we r tough customers! We went to a place that we remembered from last time but they only have 1 special room and it was booked that night so I decided to try one of Udaipur's nicest hotels across the road. they said they had a basic room avaliable, I was expecting a disapointmet but I loved it. No view and it was quite small but it was lovely and there was the small matter of the huge private jacuzzi(with marble floor and candles)! Oh, and the rooftop swimming pool and the most comfy bed of the trip!! I was sold although I think Dean had a hard time even spending lots of someone elses money on a room! Today we've moved to the other place which is in a charming old haveli and has views over the lake with lovely window seats and stained glass windows. we actually stayed in this room last time we were here but only for 1 night cos it was too expensive for us. The only problem with all these lovely rooms is that we don't want to leave them and do any sightseeing. Still back to the tramps pants style rooms when we leave here (altho we've got something special lined up in Jodhpur, one of our last stops). The good thing about all these posh places is that we now have enough toilet roll and soap to last for the rest of India! (Dean doesn't miss a trick!)
