Just wanted to let y´all know that we arrived safely in Ecuador and all is good so far. Still a bit jet lagged after the long flight and spending the night on the floor at Heathrow but I¨m feeling ok. It is hotter here than I thought it would be so i think we will spend some time on the coast. So far the food is ok, the national dish seems to be fried chicken and chips, i have been trying to avoid it for healthier choices but at least i know i won[t go hungry! We went to one of the posh backpacker haunts for brekfast today which dean hates but he soon cheered up when i ordered pancakes and they brought out enough for about 3 people so he had to help me. On the plane here I ordered a vegetarian meal and got chickpeas and spinach, Dean thought it was hilarious until lunch turned up and I had spanish omlette and asparagus and he got some kind of dog pate!!
We are off to a quieter place in the hills tomorrow called ottavalo, it is good for hiking and there is a big market on saturday, i will have to try to keep my promise not to buy a load of old tourist toot! They sell these paintings which r really bright and trippy, they have things like a train going along in the sky or a fish flying thru the hills, its a good job i cant fit anything at all in my backpack. After that we r off on a little loop down south to do a bit of hiking and a 60km mountain bike ride which dean promises is all downhill. We then fly to the galapagos on 30th May and then come back on 12th June, after that we come back to Quito and then on to Columbia.
So thats all for now, its 7.30 and i think i will go to bed soon cos Im so tired. we spent 2 hrs walking round town looking for a plug adaptor and a bikini for me cos I forgot to pact the top of mine, the Ecuadorian swimwear fashoin is a bit 80s ti say the least!
