Where I stayed
Anyway...today we ticked a new country off our list: Sweden! Yes indeed, the land of IKEA, meatballs, and ABBA. Of girls with dragon tattoos and Muppets of indecipherable accents. It's entirely possible we only visited Sweden to exploit its treasure trove of punny cultural references for my blog titles.
We caught the 9:15am train from Copenhagen to Malmo, Sweden
Also, the 45 minute ride was a bargain because ummmm...we sort of forgot to buy tickets. Anyway! Onto new nations!
Exiting the train station, we made our way through the lovely Old Town to our hotel. Frankly, Sweden looks nothing like what I'd expected. There were beautiful half-timbered German buildings, and lots of tall, ornate 18th century buildings lining the canal. It looks similar to Copenhagen, actually. I guess I was expecting an entire town decorated like an IKEA catalog. With meatballs.
There is a surprising lack of stuff to do in Malmo, despite its being one of the largest cities in Sweden. We strolled their pedestrian strogade, which was filled with high-end retail. We're not big shoppers (particularly at Scandanavian prices), so we walked through town to see Malmo's biggest draw, the Malmo Castle.
...and having seen Malmo Castle, I do believe that Sweden's definition of "castle" differs somewhat from mine
There isn't much nightlife here, particularly on a Monday night, and sadly there is no Tivoli to go to, so we hit the movies to see The Hunger Games 2 (note: kick-ass adaptation of the book). Tomorrow we head back west to Denmark to see the town of Odense.
