Best bit: country roads
Worst bit: having to resist buying a house in Ruse!
I said a fond farewell to the guest house crowd this morning (Gail waved me off at 7am) and also said a fond farewell to the Danube. On my own again with no super German maps to help me, just a rather large road atlas. Anyhow, no problems with the route and lots of opportunities to do sign language with old folk sat out basking in the sun in the little villages.
Still getting used to the vastness of the countryside. Most of the villages I pass are painfully run down, but never the less have real character. My favourite houses are the large farms where they have surrounded it with a six foot stone wall, topped with the red terracotta tiles. The buildings themselves have no windows on the outside, everything is open to the courtyard inside. Reminds me very much of how properites might have looked in Roman times.
Riding was a bit of a push today to cover the distance, but had told Steve at the guesthouse that it wouldnt be a problem. Only just made it!
