Best bit: Lord of the Rings soundtrack live
Worst bit: Ooooh its those darned fast crappy drivers again
Animals: Ladybirds, red admiral butterfly, serious looking dwarf stork
My nephew Matty will be pleased to know the Hungarians have named a small village after him. It even has a fountain with dolphins, and apparently is in the heart of Stork country.
A hefty detour from planned route took me over the border onto some great backroads and potentially gave me a chance to see some Hungarian countryside close up
My good deed for the day complete I crossed the border again. Stopping at Osijek for lunch I guzzled a bottle or two of coke and a snickers and realised my legs would just take me to the historic city of Vukovar, so it was back in the saddle. Osijek looked a bit dull anyway, and everyone was in their gardens celebrating the May day hols.
Arriving in Vukova about 5pm I cycled through a mix of new, refurbished and simply bombed out houses. Something bad had gone on here.... Accommodation in town was nearly full, so I had to stay at the 4 star hotel Lav (35 euros per night) which was probably one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. New clean, and super food. And very cheap for what I got.
In hunting for a place to stay I bumped into a friendly German lady called Jutta who was from a place in Germany I realised I had already stayed (Ulm) and was there with her school orchestra. They invited me to watch rehearals in the renovated concert hall. The standard of playing was superb and the acoustics great. There were four of us in the audience!
