Best bit: Sun over the Black Forest
Worst bit: chilly downhill from the mountains
Height climbed: 1041m
Distance: 105km
The Germans seem to have a lot of firestations and accompnying firemen. I keep passing them all the time in places where there is little else. I assume all these hefty chaps are needed because all the houses and, indeed, the Black Forest itself, are made of wood and so highly flamable.
Alternatively, German ladies (and presumably a few chaps) like to see firemen in uniform, which also seems a good investment of public funds to me. Passing a large group on these chaps all lined up for their morning roll call/parade, in my best German, I asked if I could take their picture for my album
Cycling itself today began with a monster climb into the mountainous forest. I frequently cursed the map makers who had indictated a tarmaced cycle route for most of the climb. This route, in fact, took me through a bog, a snowdrift and seeminglz over the main pinnacle itself. The views were stunning so the effort was worthwhile, but my legs were jelly by the time I had finished.

firemen at Falkenhof
. I didnt quite understand the reply from the big chested "top dog" who was officiously reading some sort of list out aloud at the time, but it was something like, "Nein, go away, ve are very busy". This seemed an odd reply, as I couldnt seen any fires at all, so I took a quick snap and before he could shout "saurkraut" had pedalled away.Cycling itself today began with a monster climb into the mountainous forest.
