Day 3 - New River Bridge, Beckley

May 15, 2013
We got up to cold temperatures and a bit of snow. We drove to Fayetteville, West Virginia to the New River Bridge. Once we got there, we drove the road down to the bottom, which is extremely narrow and twists back and forth in some crazy curves. We wanted to take some pictures at the bottom, but it was too snowy so we just drove across the old bridge, and went back up to the top. There is also a visitor’s center where there is a walkway to the scenic lookout. We took some pictures of the bridge just as the sun came out. In the fall, they close the bridge and let people bungee jump off the bridge!! Then it was off to Beckley, which used to be a coal mining town. The Coal Mine Museum was closed. It doesn't open until April 1, so we took a few pictures, then headed for Bristol. We got up to 3227 ft. in the mountains, with lots of snow and wind. It kept snowing on and off, but once we were over the mountains, the sun came out for awhile and the snow on the ground disappeared. Tomorrow we're going to the track at Bristol and doing laps on the track with our van!!
