I am at a loss for words...yes the condors were special, but they looked little more than the size of eagles when gliding out perhaps 20 yards away.  The canyon backdrop and the incredibly large views of the scenery and mountains is something I have never before experienced.  I've seen the Himalayas, Mt. Kili, the Rockies...but there is nothing that rivals what I've seen of the Andes...just seems so much larger, so much more extreme in all aspects.

That brings me back to the gliding condors that looked to be the size of an eagle... that was solely against the backdrop of the Andes...when the condors were actually directly overhead, you could see that their wingspan was at least 8-10 ft.  They actually fly to Paragas on the coast often and swoop down to prey on young sea lions.

We saw about 15-20 condors...they seem to come out one at a time and glide down the canyon- cut Colca River to a meeting place...soon there are 10 or so condors gliding about together...so graceful and majestic.  I couldn't capture in pictures, so I switched to video and am not certain how easily I can upload them with the slow connections.  Yes, the condors were great, but just taking in the beauty of Colca Canyon is something beyond words...it truly evokes a feeling inside that no picture or words can capture.

Peru is an amazing country, probably the favorite I have been to...you have the canyon country in the south, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley a bit further north, the sand dunes of Ica, Paragas along the coast, and the highest lake & canyon in the world... and I still haven't even seen the tropical rain forests and the Amazon.

Right now I'm in Puno, about a 10 minute ride to Lake Titicaca that I will be taking a boat tour of the floating islands tomorrow.

enjoying, enjoying, enjoying; what a great idea to post your trip like this, ken! i've been busy with life for a couple of days (my children's, not mine) and have just now returned to read about magical peru; it's like a mini-escape. and i have to ask; is it patently obvious to us now where the name "coca-cola" came from? seems drug-related entrepreneurship was born in this place ... very inspiring ... ha! although who needs drugs when you can actually walk on water; can't wait to see the floating islands!
