Punta del Este is the true Uruguayan beach resort and unlike Punta Del Diablo is set up with the normal beach high rise buildings and infrastructure to deal with influx of tourists - both local and foreign.

Getting There:
It was an easy trip from Punta Del Diablo. There are 5-6 buses per day that head to San Carlos where you can get on the local bus to take you the last 40 or so minutes to Punta Del Este. It is important to note that Punta Del Este is not actually the name of the city it is just the name of the suburb which sits out on the nice point (hence the name east point!) but is generally what the place is referred to. 

Our Stay:
After arriving at the bus terminal we walked the short distance to our hostel El Viajero. It almost seemed appropriate that given that this is almost the end if our journey (and this blog) that we past a sweet shop called Sin Azcur (the name of this blog for those not keeping up).

After sorting ourselves out and settle into our nice room we decide to head out for a bit of a walk. We head down to the main beach where the famous La Mano en la Arena (a massive sculptured hand) stands in the sand. We walk into town and then along the coast as far as the marina before turning back and settling on a place called Virazón for dinner. We both have salmon and it is ok but nothing amazing. After dinner we make wander back to our hostel.

The next day is the last day of our seven month South American journey together as Gabriella heads back to Buenos Aires before returning to merry old England to do that umm whats it called ..... Oh that's right work!

After a bit of a sleep in we head off for a bit of a walk around the coast and head back down to the Marina to have lunch at a place called Artico, which is more cafeteria than restaurant but still good. Gab has Salmon while I have whatever the fish of the day was along with far too much from the salad bar - but surely too much salad is good for you right?.

After lunch we walk around the coast and around the beach a bit more before heading back to the hostel to relax for a little while. Before we know it it is time to go to the bus station. It is very sad to once again be farewell each other for a reasonable amount of time (we wont be seeing each other till the end of July) but I guess something we are used to (but at the same time something you never get used to)

The rest of my stay:
I have another couple of days here before I leave for my last stop in Uruguay, Colonia del Scaremento. I will be honest and say I do get up to much. I go for a bit of wander around the beach and try the famous Chivto, basically a steak sandwich, at Guappa where you can sit on a deck over looking the beach. I cant say I am over impressed by the steak sandwich, as nice as it is its not any different from a steak sandwich you can have more or less anywhere else in this world. I do enjoy the milkshake though, something I love and have not had in a while.

The days passes quickly but I also manage to catch up with Gabriella and skype to make sure she got to Buenos Aires safely and also my friend Disco so all round successful!

Next stop Colonia!

The Nitty Gritty:
Accommodation: El Viajero
: The second of these chain of hostels we have stayed at. More or less the same setup as the last one but however with a bit more room. The doubles are really nice and good value the dorm is certainly more than acceptable, certainly for the price. There is a decent sized kitchen and living area and a pool table.
Cost: 800 pesos for a double, 176 pesos for a dorm.

: It has a nice looking setup but can say we were overly impressed. The food was ok but not great, not to mention they got part of the order wrong, but who knows may be an off night. The staff however were extremely friendly.
Cost: we both had Salmon (i think around 450 pesos each), I had a beer, Gabriella a Juice and we shared a desert and total came to 1600 pesos

Artico: more cafeteria than restaurant but the fish was better than what we had the previous night at Vizarón. They have a salad bar (cost per 100 grams was something like 100 pesos) of which I had far too much of.
Cost: We had fish (one was 280 pesos the other 330) about 400 grams of salad and a beer and total was about 1100 pesos

Guappa: a nice little setup. Food came quickly and was good. Cant say too much more really
Cost: 610 pesos for a steak sandwich and milkshake (oh and the tip of course!)

Getting There:
From Punta Del Diablo there are 5-6 bus departures to San Carlos on at least two companies. We took the 11am bus with Cynsa, it takes about 2 hours or so). From San Carlos you can catch the local bus to Punta Del Este which takes around a further 40 minutes.
Cost: 225 peso pp from Punta Del Diablo to San Carlos. 36 pesos pp from San Carlos to Punta del Este
