The final day of our holiday has arrived. We have an extremely ordinary breakfast in the extrememly ordinary hotel cafeteria, do a final pack of the bags, making sure the five bottles of wine we are bringing home are safe and sound, and set out for a last day in Paris. We take the Metro to the Musee Rodin. This is housed in an old hotel called Hotel Biron, a favourite haunt of Rodin. The hotel is surrounded by beautiful gardens inwhich many of Rodin's sculptures are located, most famously 'The Thinker'. He was a very prolific sculptor in both bronze and marble.

After an hour or so there, we take the metro to the Champs Elysee. We wander up to the Arc de Triomphe and then back to a restaruant for lunch. So taken was I with the onion soup from yesterday, I decide to have it again. John has the vegetable soup. Then we both have the croque monsieur, basically a toasted ham and cheese sandwhich. When the onion soup arrives it has a 3cm layer of melted cheese on top! I do my best to eat this, happily I am assisted by a glass of rose champagne and a glass of two of Sancerre. Then the croque monsieur arrives, also covered in a layer of cheese! Mon dieu!!

After lunch we head back to the hotel via the Metro to pick up our luggage and head to the airport.

The trip to the airport is quick, we check in, buy a few final things and have a champagne in the lounge.

The flight to London is uneventful, but we bump into a number of people we know at Heathrow. The security at Heathrow is unbelievable, heightened for the day for some reason or other. John is put through a full body scanner which picks up something/nothing in the sleeve of his polo shirt. Sue's handbag is totally emptiedevery item examined and several subjected to explosive particle search. This leads to a delayed departure, as other passengers from later connecting flights are subjected to the same treatment.

We get on the plane have dinner and get some sleep. We're on the way home.
