Once through, we headed back along the Saone River and set a steady pace, arriving at Verdun sur le Doubs at about 12.30. We had to reverse moor into the port, a manoeuvre we had not yet done. Needless to say with all the (now) experts on board and DQ at the helm it occurred effortlessly!!
We went into the town for lunch and all of us except John had the menu du jour, salad, chicken and ice cream for dessert
We had decided to moor a bit further up the river so as to avoid the (mildly) touristy port. Unfortunately this was harder than thought due to an irate French landowner, a shallow bank and an overabundance of reeds. Nevertheless we finally moored, stern out and bow secured to a tree.
The Qs decided that this was the spot for a swim. It was definitely the cleanest water we had seen.
We had a light dinner on board tonight. This was preceded by a game of Pass the Pigs!!
Sue has had trouble convincing everyone that this was a good idea. Once started the normal mayhem ensued and we had great time, inventing some local rules to deal with the landscape of the table. On one game, DQ was awarded the match when he managed to have a "Diving Snouter" when his pig got trapped nose down in the top of the hole for the beach umbrella. The bottle count was reasonably high tonight.
