The ride to the airport took us through rush hour after an early wake up. That was a bit stressful but we arrived with plenty of time. We were also quite nervous about the rental return since we wanted someone to check over the car and make sure there would be no additional charges. When we arrived, every car rental office was open but ours. So we decided to check in and I would return alone to take care of the rental. Everything was fine except that we accidentally booked the car rental 1 day short. So we owed 30 Euros extra which required another stop at the ATM. But everything else went smooth and our flight took off on time. We had one funny moment when we wanted to get rid of as many coins as possible. So our breakfast costing 9.30 Euros was paid entirely in small coins.
This was the easiest international flight we have ever had as a family. All 9 hours of the trip took place during our daytime. So Kaela and I watched movies while Hsing-ay slept. The food was bad, but we managed. And somehow we arrived a whole hour earlier than planned. Customs was a breeze and soon we were on our way to Caldwell, NJ (where Hsing-ay grew up). May 29 is our 13th anniversary, so Hsing-ay’s father had prepared a big feast for our homecoming. It was wonderful.
We’re spending a few more days on the east coast visiting with Hsing-ay’s parents, and seeing my grandfather. We’ll fly back to CO on June 6 having been away for 44 nights.
In the next few days I’ll write a couple more posts wrapping up our adventure…
