Drove from Rhyolite through Death Valley.  Saw sand dunes across from Furnace Creek, where Chris and I stayed five years ago.  It was 118 degrees today.  Alex and I got out at Furnace Creek and walked around.  Felt like we were standing in an oven.  Dry heat my a--. it was HOT.  Continued on hwy 190 up and out the other side.  Shell gas at Panamint Springs was $4.39 a gallon.  We passed.  Drove on to La Quinta in Bishop, California.  Good place but I think Lone Pine south of here would be a better stop next time.  Tomorrow, Yosemite Valley, Big Trees redwood park and Angels Camp, CA
