Wow, what can I say about the schools here, they are so different! First of all, they start at 9:00 and only go until 2:00 which means they only have 5 classes a day. Second of all, the teachers don't stay with the same class all day, or even the same grade. They teach Spanish and this other class called Conocimientos de Medio, which is a mixture of Science, Geography, and History, and they also teach one other class like English, Math, French, etc. They have a classroom that is their own classroom and the students in that classroom are supposedly their students but they are with other classes more than they are with their own class, but I guess they are with their own class more than they are with any other single class. The teacher that I am with does not speak any English, he is actually the French teacher, and the English teacher that has been really nice and helpful to me already has a student teacher (from Leon) and can't take another one (although she has offered to let me sit in on a few of her classes since it really wouldn't help me to watch my teacher teach French). I will have to call Lourdes sometime, maybe tomorrow, and ask her about what exactly I need to do and if I am going to be observed and stuff. Today I followed my teacher (Roberto) around and sat in on his classes (which were mostly French) so tomorrow I think I am going to stay in the sixth grade classroom and observe how it works from the viewpoint of the student. I think that will help me later when I need to write that paper about the similarities and differences between the educational system in Spain and the US. AfteFr school today I went with Cecy to where she has class (which is further in town near the Cathedral) and I wandered around for awhile (and almost got lost) then we went to the tourism office to get some information about the interesting places to see in the city and nearby towns.
