Today we set out for our two day trek.  We left at about 11am after the initial rush of trekkers had passed by the hotel.  We trekked for about 2 1/2 hours through some beautiful countryside and through villages and rice paddies.  We were accompanied by our guide Zao and Su.    We stopped for a light lunch at Lao Chai at Glenn's British friend Ian's "Black H'Mong Cafe" where many of the tour groups stop. Ian is married to Juu, a local Black H'Mong girl who is also our guide Zao's sister.  The lunch rush had gone so we had the restaurant to ourselves. This is where Glenn was helping out when he first came to Sapa and his carved sign hangs over the door. The restaurant overlooks a lovely river and rice paddies.  After lunch we happened to meet a friend of our guides, Mai, who also joined us. We trekked for another couple of hours to Kau Kim Homestay at Tavan where were welcomed by our hosts for the night.  The homestay was very comfortable with lots of room and beds with mosquito nets (and a western toilet).  We met up with another group of four there - a couple from NZ and a young couple from Wollongong.  All the guides knew each other so it was a very social evening.  The food was really nice - a typical hilltribe meal.  The trek wasn't too strenuous - a bit hot though. The weather is staying hot and sunny - apparently not typical for this time of year in this area. This was good for the trek as the track would have been treacherous if it had been raining.
