7th May
Heraklion to Santorini (Thira)
Fine, sunny 22 degrees

We had organised an early breakfast and a taxi call so that we could get to the Port in plenty of time to catch the Flying Cat 4 to Santorini. It's a much smaller ferry than the last one we caught and much nicer. We had allocated aircraft style seats, one of them a window seat, and it was non-smoking. We arrived at the Port of Thira at about 11.30 and managed to find a bus (coach) to take us up to the town for only 2 Euro each. We were dropped at the main bus station and walked, and walked, and walked, with our luggage asking directions along the way (just another 100 metres the friendly locals would say) until we finally found our accommodation. We settled and after a brief rest went to see explore Thira. It's much bigger than I expected and quite busy with about 8 cruise ships (mostly French) in Port. There are lovely white rendered houses and walls, cobbled lanes, restaurants overlooking the sea and lots of little shops selling the usual souvenirs, jewellery and craft. We saw the cable cars taking tourists up and down the steep hill to the port or by the other options, the 598 step pathway, or those poor donkeys. We chose to watch from the top as we had no need to get to the Old Port today. When I could wander no longer we stopped for a lovely Greek dinner and then watched the sunset on the way back to the Villa.
