18th April Grey skies cold 13 degrees

We caught the bus downtown to start our scheduled sightseeing. First stop, the Space Needle, where we purchased our Seattle CityPass $54US each to get us into the main Seattle attractions. The tower is 520 feet (158m) high and gives 360 degree views of the city and countryside including the ice capped mountain ranges on two sides (Cascade and Olympic). We could also see the lake and houseboats where Sleepless in Seattle was filmed. Next we walked through the Olympic Sculpture Park to the waterfront for our next stop, the Seattle Aquarium, where we saw Sea Otters, River Otters, Fur Seals and Puffins as well as many tanks of various sealife. We were finished just in time to catch our one hour Cruise of Elliot Bay with commentary of Seattle history and buildings. The famous Pike Place Market was our next stop which is a bustling historic market with fresh food, flowers and crafts. The original Starbucks is also here. We had lunch in the park by the waterfront nearby. Next we found our bus connections for later, travelling at night, and then headed to the Pacific Science Centre, an interesting Centre mostly aimed at kids with lots of educational interactive displays. The same building houses the Boeing Imax theatre where we relaxed for a while and watched the 3D Monsters v Aliens - the 3D was impressive. Luckily we'd booked earlier as it was sold out. After fish and chips we went back to the Space Needle to see the city lights. Our bus trip back to the hotel was surprisingly easy but it was sad to learn that the homeless ride the buses all night just to have somewhere safe to be.
