It's a small country town which is World Heritage listed. Of course, as most European towns, there is a castle and a tower. We climbed the tower, and you can tell that they haven't changed a lot because it was so difficult to climb. Narrow spiral staircases and low ceilings make for fun climbing! Great view of the town and the surrounding country side at the top though.
It's cheaper than Prague, which makes it cheaper than home! It's great! Although there isn't all that much to buy! Except for food and drinks... so when in Cesky...!
We were able to walk around the entire town & the castle the afternoon we arrived, and left the next day to relaxing at the hostel (first hostel stay & quite an experience), and rafting down the Vltava River
We hired a canoe for 3 hours and travelled nicely down the river. Made a stop at one of the bars that are set up along the river in the middle of what seems like no where, and then made our way down to our pick up point. Just before we had to get out there was a little water fall, rapid thing. And we went down and got so wet, but we stayed upright & didn't fall in! (Unlike a lot of other people we saw!) But we then couldn't stop and crashed (& I mean crashed) into the bank of rocks, went over board. flipped the canoe and discovered our "water proof tub" really wasn't that water proof! And we almost lost the canoe down stream coz we both fell out, and we were so close to the rocks on the back, our feet got cut and we have a few war wounds! Thank goodness a couple of other guys we knew were there and they helped! Don't even want to know how much it would have cost us if we had to replace a lost canoe!
And the hostel... hmmm, probably one of the worst on the circuit according to other people who have stayed in most of them during their journey! We got a room with 2 singles beds, a table and 2 chairs. That's it! And we had to walk through another dorm room to get to ours! Like I said, an experience. But we finally met a few people and went out for dinner & a few drinks with others. Was great fun. Some from Melbourne, some from Sydney. Really felt like we were in a totally different country coz we were out with a group of people we just met. Was great fun... and like I said, it's cheap, so we were able to sample the Czech Republic's finest!
Was great to relax and meet some new people in a country area. The slower pace has recharged the batteries and we're ready to take on the last few big cities.
