After a long weekend camping, being wet, cold and uncomfortable, we decided we needed to get to Florida FAST if not faster. Soooo as we awaited reply of Sophie's Mimi in Jacksonville we were left in a pickle....
We had heard about a little thing the traveling world calls "Couchsurfing" and decided to check it out. We looked in the Jacksonville area and found a guy named Alex Manne who seemed pretty cool, and we decided to send him a message, even though we realized it was very short notice, and the way our luck had been going we didn't really expect much to happen. (For all you worried parents out there, they do background checks on all the people who host) Much to our surprise, Alex messaged us back about 30 minutes after we shot out the e-mail, and said he had an extra room for us because one of his roommates had moved out, and that tomorrow(Monday) would be fine.

WE WERE PSYCHED, a little scared, BUT PSYCHED, and we figured there were 3 of us, 3 pepper sprays, 3 knives, a baseball bat, and only 1 of him. So we headed on our merry way. We got to Jacksonville no problemo, even early, as Alex was still in class. Considering it was 75 DEGREES OUT we decided to check out Jacksonville Beach and mingle with the natives a little bit. We walked along the beach, found out the pier cost money to walk on(BS!) and went looking for the facilities. We had to walk fa fa away to find them, and by the time we got out the fog was rollin' in so thick that we could barely see, and we went back to the car.
Alex finally called, and we headed over to Heron's Landing, which was where his condo-thing was. He greeted us outside, extra polite, and showed us his pad. Our bed was HUGE(bigger than a king) and the place was nice. He had to go back to class, and we decided we would cook him dinner for letting us stay there, and trusting us in his house alone..??

We definitely took advantage of the "mi casa su casa" philosophy and made ourselves at home. We went to Publix to shop. We decided to make homemade meatballs, pasta, and garlic bread. While Jen was "conveniently" on the phone, Sophia and I slaved away in the kitchen making the meatballs(peppers, onions, bread crumbs, eggs, worchestire, garlic, s and p, other delicious secrets I'm not at liberty to say), and garlic butter for our French bread.

Needless to say the meal was delicious and Alex was very gratfeul, but after our long weekend camping we were pooped, and we fell asleep on our gigantic bed...

Not long after we awoke, little miss Jen decided to "get something out of the trunk" which, for all of you who don't speak Jen, means "lock the keys in the trunk." But, fortunately for us we have a spare key!!! So I whip out the spare key, and ohh! wait, it doesn't work.....Now, for most of you with codes that unlock the cars doors, this little mishap still wouldn't be a problem. But Jen can't remember the code. So, you know, now we need to call AAA, which we decide to do later, because "we had more important things to do."

We decided to do a group activity. We researched free things to do in the Jacksonville area, and we decided to go visit the Budweiser brewery. We were the only ones on the tour, and the room where they boil the rice, barley, and hops was really hot and uncomfortable. Not to mention our awkward guide who desperately wanted us to ask her questions, which we had none of. But other than that it was pretty groovy, and it was free. We were really into it because we got free soda and pretzels.

After our grand adventure we were trying to think about dinner, and what to do with all of that leftover pasta(we made two boxes). We decided on lemon chicken. We raged Publix sales in the front of the store stocking up on soup (4 tomato soups for $2), and headed towards the Chickchick. We also got ingredients for a delectable caesar salad. We got back to the hizzouse, and Sophie and I started marinating, we marinated with lemon of course, garlic, basil, and olive oil (all the while Jen was "conveniently" outside watching Alex try to unlock her car with a clothes hanger and a screwdriver) until he gave up and Jen finally called AAA.

After that fiasco, we sat back and watched the tube, and Alex went to play bass with some peeps.
The chicken, like the meatballs, was delishh, and the dinner was quite festive if I do say so myself.

Overall, our first couchsurfing experience was wonderful, Alex is a really cool guy, we got to use a real kitchen, a king sized bed, and it was free!! And we got the car unlocked, who could ask for more?!?!

Peace be witch ya'lll-CDC
