During our 30 minute ferry ride we reflected on where we had been during our last 10 days…from Macchu Picchu Inca ruins to the Amazon jungle, from the Andes mountains to the city of Lima, then the remote Easter Island and now at the paradise island of Moorea! We caught the local bus to our hotel catching our first glimpses of brilliantly turquoise waters. It really is as good as the pictures! We have to keep explaining to people it's not our honeymoon or anniversary or any other special occasion…. though it is the perfect honeymoon island.

We were pleasantly surprised with our bungalow at Kaveka hotel, which was to be our home for the next 3 nights. However, the lack of AC (just a slow fan) meant frequent showers and dips in the sea to cool off. After collecting some supplies from the supermarket and booking our tours we went for a swim. A minute from our room you can jump off the pier and snorkel in the clear waters and see many colourful fish. The water is the same temperature as the air temperature… around 30 degrees…warmer than your local pool! No need for our jumpers here as its 32C all year round, though the humidity makes it feel a lot hotter.

The following day we went quad biking into the interior of the island through the lush green vegetation. We stopped at the Bounty view point at the centre of the extinct volcano, Belvedere viewpoint with fantastic views of Cooks Bay (where we are staying) and Opunohu Bay and lastly Magic Mountain, for a 360 degree view and from where we could see the Hilton overwater bungalows… can’t wait to stay there… looks amazing! We splashed through streams and went past pineapple plantations and stopped for some yummy pineapple juice and mango & passion fruit ice-cream.

After a good nights sleep we set off for the 2nd part of our tour with Albert’s tours, to go jet skiing. This was great fun and gave us chance to look back at the beautiful island from the lagoon. We drove out of the reefs, leaving the turquoise lagoon behind to ride over the huge waves of the Pacific ocean. This was very bumpy… and maybe a bit scary! However, it was worth it as we arrived back in the lagoon where the water was even more amazing, the clearest we have ever seen. Here we got up close and personal with the sting rays and reef sharks! At first we were a bit timid but after a while we were soon touching and feeding them.

We hired a scooter and spent the afternoon seeing the rest of the island. It took us about 2 hours to drive around the whole of Moorea with plenty of photo stops. Last stop was a viewpoint over the Sofitel hotel and the nearby Temae beach with a quick dip in the sea before sunset. We are looking forward to checking in at the Hilton tomorrow and spoiling ourselves!

We arrived at the Hilton looking like backpackers (probably the only ones on the island!).  We checked into our amazing overwater bungalow complete with glass panel flooring for fish viewing and personal balcony from which we can jump straight into the clear waters to snorkel around the coral.  We did everything we had planned … which was nothing!

Well actually, we did manage to find the time for swimming and snorkeling, some kayaking, paddle boating and did a trip to a private island. We enjoyed the yummy breakfasts and managed to smuggle some extra snacks for the rest of the day into my handbag!

After a quick call to reception to complain about some nearby noise from workmen, we were surprised to be offered a free dinner in the restaurant.  So we had some tasty seafood and steak followed by a posh pudding.  The bill came in at $200 so it was a worthwhile phone call!  We walked back to our bungalow and enjoyed watching some reef sharks and plenty of other fish swimming near the crepe bar.  We were sad we would have to leave the next day…

After a lovely relaxing 3 nights in the most amazing beach setting I think we shall ever stay, we packed our bags and set off for the airport. Our holiday was over…. now back to traveling!
