When we did a cooking class at the Sydney Fish Markets earlier this year, we took a celebrity chef session with Frank Camorra of MoVida, a chain of Spanish restaurants in Melbourne. Fortuitously, Frank had just finished writing "MoVida's guide to Barcelona", and with this book as our guide, we've had some great eating experiences in Barcelona!

The food in Barcelona is much more seafood focused than in Madrid, and more fresh (rather than preserved) ingredients are used. One of my favourite places was a restaurant called "Coure", known for inventive tapas. We ate these strange sea creatures, which our crappy spanish dictionary translated to "Barnacle". Anyone know what they are? I think they might be some sort of sea anemone.

UPDATE: Wikipedia tells me we ate a Goose Barnacle.

One of Ash's favourite places was a small tapas bar called 'Quimet y Quimet", with is now run by a fifth generation Quimet! They don't cook anything at Quimet, - all the tapas are cold, but the food is of the highest quality. We had some fantastic cheeses there. It was full of character - the entire tiny little bar was stacked high with canned foods, wine and liquor of all types (including a surprising array of interesting beers).
