On the way to Wien we stopped by the ruins of an old Roman town called Carnuntum. There we witnessed the fascinatingly large Heidentor--a Roman arch build almost two millenia ago that looks a bit like the arch in Washington Square Park without the skateboarders. But Navin and I tried to provide the aerials nevertheless.

We got into town that evening and quickly discovered that summer Tuesdays nights left little options in the way of food or drink. But we managed somehow and awoke early to do a bit of sightseeing around the various sights along the Ringstrasse before continuing on to Budapest.

On the border of Austria and Hungary is a lake called the Neusiedler See. Apparently it is supposed to be one of the more beautiful places in the country so we took a little detour out of our way to see it but frankly it looked like just another becalmed body of water.
