Came to Haridwar through an interesting circumstance. I got off the long bus ride from Himachal Pradesh to get a transfer to Rishikesh (almost didn't even get off...try unlocking a small combination lock and untangling an intricately tied bag from the top of a public India bus as it's moving and will not be stoping!) and I left some very important gifts on the bus. Once I realized it I hired a taxi to rush me across the hour trip to maneuver through the mad chaotic Haridwar bus station to find my bus. At one time on this narrow two lane wooded road we passed a bus as a rickshaw was passing us as a scooter was passing the rickshaw and another bus was coming at us in the other lane...insane, but we all made it!
Well, long story short (longer version on it's way) I found it and my gifts in tact. Stayed two long nights here. Did not like the town one bit, but managed to take away a friendship with a cool English girl named Anna and experiencing the massive and beautiful Puja and Arti along the Ganga which is what Haridwar is famous for.
