Where I stayed
Started off the day at 6am to get ready for check out & taxi pick up. Had to be at the station by 7am because I've inherited from Dad the need to be somewhere an hour early, just in case. Ooohh! Fresh morning, the Central Station is completely outdoors so first thing on the agenda, hot coffee.
The train ride from Bergen to Oslo was 6.5hrs of the most beautiful train journey I've ever been on. Start going past the last fjords I'll see & some spectacular lakes. Within an hour we reach high snow capped mountains that just get higher & higher & higher. The highest peaks were just deep pure white snow. Snow is just the most glorious substance I've seen. It makes a rubbish bin look beautiful. In the night or the day it looks like it has glitter in it as it shines & sparkles
The majority of the trip remains in alpine areas but you can tell the altitude is getting lower as the vegetation cover increases. Not too far from Oslo the train goes through a thick pine forest with a large lake. As it is Sunday I see a number of people cross country skiing on tracks, making it look so easy.
It was such a beautiful train trip that it really didn't feel as long as it was. The most frustrating thing is when you see a brilliant photo opportunity but of course can't stop. I hope the photos I attached give you a bit of an idea what the trip was like.
Eventually I make it to Oslo around 3pm & it's rather busy & freezing. I find my hotel, check in quickly & go for a walk. This time I don't have to rush because I'm here for a couple of days. So I took it easy as it was getting dark, and went to some of the shops in the area.
