'Joy and Sorrow' about tonight's show.  Joy obviously, because I couldn't think of a bit way to spend New Years Eve!  Sorrow because it's the last concert, and maybe the last time I see them play if they don't return to Australia.

Tonight I made the effort to arrive around 9.30pm so I could experience everything.  Unfortunately I couldn't stand on the balcony tonight because it had been reserved for family, friends and VIPs.  I think fans who have travelled the furthest should also be considered VIPs.

So instead I had to fight my way on the floor.  And I mean fight.  It was the most crazy crowd ever.  A friend from London actually started lining up at 7am to get front row position.  That is dedication because it was a cold day of course.  Anyhow, she got front row, but at some point in the night some pyscho Russian fans (again) not only started pushing and shoving, but punching and kicking.  My friend ended up on the floor, slammed against a metal platform....long story short, she had to be taken to hospital for stitches and in the end a full knee reconstruction when she gets home.  She obviously missed the show.  Lucky for me nothing quite like that happened.  I was standing close to two solid guys who became my support barrier on many occassions.  I was literally wedged up on the side next to the stairs, and thankfully close to a wall which I needed to grab a few times to keep my balance.

Just before midnight we all did the customary countdown and were then showered with champagne.  Personally I would have preferred to drink it.  Then HIM came on stage and the place went crazy!  Within the first song there was a lot of movement on the floor with the customary last minute rude people pushing to get to the front.  With the help of the guys next to me we managed to keep quite a few back.  Not that it stopped them, they just went another way, but not in front of me and that's all that was important.  It was like the whole crowd was a massive tidal wave, moving together, sometimes in a positive way and sometimes negative.  By the third song we were unfortunately joined by our own nutter Russian fan who was drunk and probably stoned and totally f****d in the head.  She kept pushing, jumping on people, throwing her arms around, spilling drink on everyone, screaming ridiculous comments.  She tried to get in front of me and I turned around gave her the darkest look I could muster and screamed "f**k off" in her face.  She didn't bother me again.

Despite the 'survival of the fittest' antics in the crowd it was an amazing night and the show was clearly the best of all of them.  They all performed to their very best standard.  There was jamming galore.  Ville's voice was absolutely pitch perfect and again he gave us many glutteral screams.  It was fantastic!

After the show it was the usual push and shove to the door, so much so that I had many of the VIPs squeeze past me which was quite a fun experience.  Eventually I gave up trying to leave the venue and went and had a drink in another section of the club.  A DJ was just getting started.  He's a drummer from a well known Helsinki Heavy metal band, who I actually didn't know but others knew.  He leads a group called the Helsinki Vampire Club.  Don't worry I'm not turning into a vampire head.  Basically he plays Metal and Goth music instead of the usual dance crap that other DJs play.  I'm very happy to say that I was not subjected to 'Gangnam style' song once all night.

I eventually left the club around 4ish and collapsed into bed, bruised and battered, but extremely happy.  HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I will have to try to top it next year, somehow. Mind you Phillip Island does have the Pyramid Rock Music Festival. Although it attracts to many bogans.

Yes I'm tough if I have to be! I really should take over Molly Meldrums job

Hell yeah! She was a f'ing pain. Remember me going off at those girls at Harry Potter, well multiply that by 10. I'm a very polite & considerate person most of the time & it takes a lot to make me hit the explosion button!

wow ~ how great to be in smaller venues for all the shows. despite the pushin', shovin', cosy conditions ... I think these gigs are the best of all. It reminds me of Blur at the Metro, one of the best shows ever. well done you ... multiple awesome memories :D
