I could easily see myself being able to live in Portugal. With over 700 kilometers of coast, an almost island-like isolation from the rest of Western Europe (yet with obvious geographic proximity), and a people who are still sincerely hospitable to visitors this place has tangible merrit.

Knowing just a miniscule portion of this warm country, Lisboa seems to me strikingly more Latino and funky that its other roman colonial cousins, Spain and France. Original traits still all its own, I did, however, find some visible simularities with other seaside cities I've visited: an impressive Golden Gate-esque bride, spanning its wide harbor (with the electric street cars and topography to match...fog?), a highly perched, outstrected-arms statue of Christ a la Rio de Jenairo, a fairly modest, steel observation tower (complete with a wooden and brass elevator and a fine selection of available postcards), Moorish castels which still prevail on the city's highest ridges, and a fairly modern, slightly more interior district which is a sharp contrast to an unfortunate amount of structural crumbling in its earth quake survivor, historic area. I love it!

The Portugese culture is very esoteric in it's origings (there's definatley been something a brewin' here, and it ain't just the port). Having shrugged a long-lived Moorish occupany and having campaigned a strong and sucessful resistance to Spanish imperialism, many secret societies, cults, & an eclectic mix of bold and progressively minded liberators are said to have a permiating history and current visible presence.

I have a clear sense that there is so much more to see here, and I feel very inspired to do so.
