Before leaving Georgia, I visited one final monastery, the majestic and grand Alaveni Cathedral.  It is one of the tallest cathedrals in Georgia.  It was quite majestic with its vaulted ceiling though it is in the middleof nowhere.  Gremi fortress was my last stop in Georgia, then it was on to the border with Azerbaijan.

When I reached the border, we all had to disembark from the bus and walk across the bridge to get into Azerbaijan.  Given the relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, I was a little nervous since I had an Armenia stamp and visa in my passport.  But it did not seem to bother the customs police and they only did a few spot checks - the Azeris were looking intently for any maps that displayed Nagoro-Karabagh as a part of Armenia or as an autonomous republic - of peoples' luggage; my luggage was spared this scruitiny and I walk right on through.  The crossing only tookabout an hour and then it was on to Sheki and its caravanserai.

Once in Sheki, we made our way to the Shah's palace and then to Kiš cathedral.  A couple ethnographic museums gave some insight into life in Azerbaijan.
