Soo one of the research program coordinators thought it was a great idea to take the interns to Kings Dominion, an amusement park.  The interns from this area seemed hyped up about it, so I was excited as well.

Kings Dominion is about an hour and 15 minutes from Charlottesville, past Richmond, I think.  People talk about how they go to Richmond to shop or see a movie (because Charlottesville clearly offers none of such activities), and I would have checked it out if I had a car.  After a little traffic, we arrived at Kings Dominion!

I used to be quite an avid rollercoaster fan- back in middle and early high school days.  I even got a season pass to 6 Flags over Georgia a couple years in a row... They were only $50 or so for the whole summer.  My guy friends and I would strategize how to maximize our time by using the Flash Pass.  We would ride the Superman and whatever crazy rides 6 flags had to offer again and again and again.

Kings Dominion has both a water park and a regular amusement park together.  The tickets were something like $55, according to the program coordinator who purchased them.  What???  Despite the high price, there were a TON of people.  The crowd was really diverse in age and demographics.  I saw an old white guy wearing a confederate flag hat, and a big black family was waiting in line behind him...

So off we went.  For the next 7 hours, we rode on 4 rollercoasters (Dominator, Volcano, Stunt Double?, and Flight of Fear) and a kiddie swing type of ride.  That's right.  7 hours and 5 rides.  This is why the Flash Pass at 6 Flags is the greatest invention ever.  The rollercoasters themselves were really, really fun and sometimes even scary!  I don't remember ever being so scared or screaming out so loud while riding a rollercoaster.  Oh, how time has changed.

I would go back only if I went on a Wednesday evening when not many people are there... the waits were just a little too long.  There was an online special on top of it being a Saturday morning... that's just a lot of people.  Even with a fun group, you kind of get drained and bored by the end.
