s as if we were reunited after the Berlin wall was crushed. In actuality, I hung out with them in the hostel just a day earlier. Small world? Everyone seems to have a similar itinerary: Vienna, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris... those who dare to venture at the cost of western Europe, I suppose. I am not. I am leaving in 2 days.
Anyway, a bottle of wine and 5 pitchers later, we have made a ton of new friends from Brazil, Scotland, and England. The bar is closing. An Australian try very hard and drunkenly to pick me up. Dormcest never ends on the road, huh? I am very, very schwasty and my empty stomach cries out
Out of the intense present tense writing... and recap of today: Dana and I slumped out of bed around 10:30am to fulfill our duties as tourists. We first went to the cathedral in the Museuminsel (museum island) area. You could climb up to the top and get a nice view of the city. The cathedral was not that tall, but Berlin lacking skyscrapers, you could still see the roofs of almost all buildings. Then we got a day pass to the museums. I got a 50% student discount using my student health insurance card, yay! The first museum had ancient stuff, like Egyptian and Greek artifacts. The Egyptian exhibit was cool, but I have been to Egypt itself so.... yeah. The free audio guide droned on for too long, so I found myself skipping and wandering. After doing some shopping and eating amazing Thai food, we proceeded to the second museum: Pergamemnon (sp?) Museum. The special exhibit was Babylon- so cool! I loved the layout. It had the "truth" side, which contained real artifacts, and the "myth" side that had all these videos, books, and paintings about Babylon. We were soo tired at this point, but we made our way to the parliament, where you can climb up to the glass dome for free! This was my favorite place in the entire city. The parliament building was all grand and old while the dome was so random and furturistic. Now we are back in the hostel... about to do the pub crawl.
