on sundays everygody and their pet dog are going from the provinces back into bangkok and there is nary a soul going in the other direction except that this sunday there were two displaced souls returning from egypt and headed for cha-am. we breezed through on the open road on cruise control at 100 km/hr.

a word of warning to the uninitiated. if you want to return to bangkok from just about anywhere else in thailand, please do not attempt to do so on sunday afternoon or evening. it is a nerve-wracking stop-and-go experience and it often turns routine 1.5 or 2-hour trips into 5 or 6 hours of anguish. we did it once. we will never do it again.

the weather in cha-am was just lovely, clear skies with puffs of white clouds just floating on by, and a nice cool ocean breeze Cha-am Beach

. the house was nice and clean with fresh flowers in a vase as the maid had been there on saturday to prepare it for our arrival.

a late lunch at isaan choclec restaurant with cold singha beer and a jet-lag nap were all we needed to get right back into the swing of things back home in cha-am. it is a very tall swing and it sways very very slowly.

in the evening we went out to the country club for a game of squash and a swim to get out bodies moving again after that long flight. the secret to squash is footwork. you have to keep your eyes on the ball every second of course, but without balance and footwork you've got nothing. pencil does not move well and often leaves an open court. when i take those charity points, i like to shout "nobody home". pencil hates that. one of these days i am going to have to stop doing that for the sake of our relationship.

and then dinner at nino's with pencil's niece som. predictably, som wanted the hawaiian pizza. nino just rolled his eyes. he does not talk much. he doesn't have to. he can communicate very well with facial expressions and gestures. that particular eye-roll means "why am i not surprised?"

traveling is great but so is coming home. do doubt about it. this is where i belong.
