larry is getting married tomorrow. i am leaving for the wedding around noon and it will apparently take all day. a dinner party is planned. the venue is a small village near phetchaburi town. larry is from saskatchewan. it's a tough place to be from. saskatchewan breeds rugged individuals with zero tolerance for bullshit. larry is one of those individuals.

here is the story of larry and nong. early this year larry had hit rock bottom. he had totalled his car in a spectacular crash and was slowly healing from the wounds. he was in trouble at work. and his longtime gorgeous malaysian girlfriend had left him. he was drowning himself in alcohol in the true canadian spirit. his health deteriorated. he began to look more and more gaunt and even dead. i feared for his well being.

one day, by sheer chance, because he always eats at falang restaurants, but that day, just by sheer weird chance, he stopped at a thai restaurant on the highway for lunch aussiejohn

. nong worked as a waitress at that restaurant. petite and gorgeous and with jet black hair and diamond eyes, she came to the table to take larry's lunch order.

if you never before in your life believed in love at first sight please believe it now. larry just stared at her unable to talk and unable to order lunch. soon thereafter larry told me that he had fallen in love with an angel from heaven and he began to go there for lunch every day and stay until dark.

soon nong began to understand and appreciate the situation she had at hand. larry's devotion and persistance rattled her heart. she dared to wonder if she could have this falang for a husband. so one day she asked him if he was single. he said that he was but that he would trade his singledom in if she would be his wife. just like that. larry is like that. he is a wild and crazy guy from the frozen tundra up north.

nong was not sure if this was a joke or the real thing. it was the real thing of course. one day she could hold her excitement no longer and called her mother and told her she was going to marry a falang. there was excitement and tears all around. her mother made all the arrangements. the monks would come to perform the ceremony at their ancestral family home in the village. there would be a big dinner party. the whole village would come.

and that is what will happen tomorrow. i can't wait.
