Olympos

Paradise! Today we swam in the Mediterranean Sea...blue water...blue sky...(the water was not warm, but not as cold as home...and we just had to do it!). We visited the mountain where Bellepheron trapped the Chimera, and still his fiery breath comes out of holes in the rocks. The village of Olympos itself is like a summer camp for young adults, a bit of a ghost town right now, but clearly a hot spot when summer comes. There are more pensions than normal houses between this town and the next. The ancient Lycean, Roman and Medieval ruins are overgrown, as I remember Palenque being in Mexico. Wandering down a dirt path under the shade of orange trees (The oranges are ripe and delicious...not a dry one to be found) you suddenly come upon some part of an ancient building, beautiful mosaics, arches, sarcophagi...right there in the middle of nowhere. We climbed the acropolis and looked out across the Mediterranean, and over to Mt. Olympos...pretty spectacular.
Sophi takes her soccer ball everywhere and feels lonely without it. It has been hiking in Cappodocia and here in Olympos...pretty privileged ball I think.
