Here in Ireland no one is in a hurry...
There are few sign posts... and then they're mostly just the names of the place yous be goin' and nobody can give directions, but they're happy to chat...and discuss it a bit. We stumbled upon the hill of Tara, a beautiful ancient holy site, whereon there was also later placed a church of St. Patrick. It is said to be the place where he had his greatest struggle (and truimph) with the druids. We wandered around the site, in the wind, between the sheep, and looked all 'round at the rollin' green in every direction. Sophia was gleeful, declaring that she would settle here on a farm and have children. After drivin' round in circles for half the day we found our way to Bru na Boinne; a world heritage site; An enormous burial mound that predates the pyramids. The tour takes you inside of it...and you can enter a lottery to be one of the lucky people that is chosen to go in during the time of the winter solstice, when the morning sun penetrates all the way to the heart of it. Well worth going to, but take the time to get a good map and clear directions.
We drove through the afternoon and into the early evening on narrow winding roads, squeezing past big lorries and through little picturesque towns to the far NW of Ireland, Donegal and Killybegs, where we were warmly welcomed by more new friends! More thumbnails ...

All-in-all so far . . . (reply) Dec 9, 2007 13:24 EST by nanapush
Sounds like such a good trip!! Your comments about the Irish - - not in a hurry, can't give directions . . . funny. Not in a hurry even in Dublin? Incredible.
I really appreciate all of your descriptions and your poem and especially enjoyed the description of driving around in Ireland . . . Miss Camper (me) so readily and easily relates to a 'road trip' but . . . in another country! Very c... show all

Sounds wonderful (reply) Dec 8, 2007 07:15 EST by frank_eveline
Dear Mike, Tommi and Sophia,
Been following your trip. It sounds like you're having a great time in Ireland. Frank and I must go there too.
Sorry about the airport thing in Brussels. If it was Zaventem you should have gone to, we could have told you.
Love,
Eveline
