I wake up in the middle of the night and do not know where I am.
I am in a world where servants are the norm and aknowledment is not; where bright sari's stand out in high relief against the dirty grey backdrop of the city, like colorful umbrellas on grey seattle days; where roads are rough and full of holes, crowded with peddler's carts, scooters, bicycles, motorcycles, cars and busses, weaving around chuck holes and pedestrians, honking at one another in a perpetual chorus of chaos; Where 100 children, of all ages, play contentedly together on a small patch of walled earth; where the festival of Diwali is Martinmas, Christmas and the fourth of July all wrapped into one!
I am in a world where time is an experience, not a commodity; where waiting is expected and where social custom and connection have more value than perceived efficiency; I am in a world where the sacred IS the every day; where men sleep barefoot outside of the airport. I am in a world where I am treated like an honored guest. I am adjusting to the constant, vibrant, sensory stimulation, and to the middle of the day being in the middle of the night and visa versa. WOW! I will add photos when I can. love to all More thumbnails ...

Geez, it's wierd to look at a picture of you in your living room, knowing you're a zillion miles away. I didn't see my message from yesterday so maybe I didn't actually post it.
Anyway, what an incredibly different perspective your experiencing! Did you read The Brothers K? Peter has a similar experience - the foreigner.... If you haven't read it maybe you can fit it in some year.
