Benidorm is called the Manhattan of the Costa Blanca, not cause its super cool, but because of its numerous high rises.  We  didn't spent much time here, we drove 20 min to the next town called Calpe.  We did a cool hike, up a huge rock peninsula, and recommended by the guide book we brought with us. Being experienced hikers and being completely ignorant as to what we were getting ourselves into, we embarked on the hike with just our "flippy-floppies". The start of the hike was nothing more than a walk in the park with a nice stone path that led us into a manmade tunnel.  The tunnel was pretty neat, complete with ropes to help guide us in the dark and to avoid bailing on the slick rock. Once out of the tunnel, the path changed drastically, to jagged rocks, slippery mud and cliff faces accented with a million seagulls (and their droppings...). We persevered up the majority of the trail until we got to a point where we were using ropes for balance as we went up steeper rock faces. Now I wouldn't call this a challenging hike, perhaps a bit technical but in flip flops it was HELL!  We finally called it quits before reaching the top (cursed our flip-flops) and opted for an easier path that led to the furthest point out to sea. The views were fantastic, and Sophie managed to pet a seagull despite my warnings that it might have the swine flu.
