His parents’ influence catapulted his public service that spanned more than 37 years and culminated in the presidency of the United States; he ushered in landmark legislation such as Medicare, Head Start, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and 43 national park authorizations or additions. As a boy, he learnt the value of education and his administration passed more than 60 education bills – a fitting tribute to his mother.
He never forget where he came from and worked hard to provide electricity throughout the rural counties that surround Johnson City. All his accomplishments have earned him a respect that is still alive today in the Texas Hill Country.
