Hello hello,

I've been in Dakar doing some research and prep work for some of my projects, that and I needed to get out of the village for a bit, I had my first feelings of bitterness or perhaps you could call it the tiredness of the repetitiveness of life here.  Perhaps it is just Ramadan and people are generally more tired and lazy and unwilling to help right now or because it's the hottest it has ever been here and my chin is a haven for skin aliments compounded by the fact that I ate something not properly washed and I've been suffering the consequences for the past five days.

But now I am feeling much better after seeing friends, watching movies and making vegetarian sushi.  I will make the five hour trip back to site tomorrow feeling slightly more prepared to help get this trash management project underway.  Also school will be starting very soon and will help bring a welcomed change and new routine to village life.

Here is the next round of pictures of my kayak trip, skin infection, my family after my brother's high school graduation, cooking and what my village looks like after the rains. Enjoy!

hi from Linda at Drinkwater School
Hi Desneige. For whatever reason, I can't seem to view your pictures. But, we did receive your letter and I read it to the class today! We all loved it and your fable about the goat that can't bleat. We're working on title for it. Last week, we harvested our school garden, and sent a lot of produce to the Northport Food Pantry, some to the kitchen, and are selling carrots and some other veggies to the students. We also made Stone Soup and everyone got to try it.
The children know that Africa is continent and not a country, that it has water almost entirely around it, and that there are 53 countries in it. I'm reading them a book called 'Africa is Not A Country', about what life is like for children in 25 of its countries, and we're reading a little trade book about Africa. Reports on individual countries will be coming up soon. We will write back to you soon via snail mail. I'll keep working on seeing your pictures. Keep up your worthwhile and very inspiring work! Love, Linda

oh my dear girl
I feel for you, fasting in the heat and needing to get away for a while. I love your spirits and upbeat attitude though. I am thinking about you and sending many good thoughts your way. Its cold in San Francisco, feels like fall, and I miss fall in Maine. Things are good. I miss you. Feel better soon and wash your food. I couldn't see your pictures either, but please send some soon. I would really love to see them.

much love,
