well, I'll tell you later. First of all, when I came to be, I heard some crazy things going on in the real world on the outside. Oh, and speaking of" Be-a", that is how the Humphrey year began with the birth of my older cousin (brother Garrett's younger first cousin, Beatrix Hendrix Chesman better know as Bea
, was born the first weekend of January so the Humphreys started January in celebration. The trip south was so nice, that it was quickly followed up by a trip to the Westgate Resort lodge and waterpark just outside Gatlinburg. January also saw the continuation of Daddy's (from here out I will call Steve) 5th year of teaching at Holston (and first teaching math) and Mommy's (here out I will call Laura) second semester teaching English as a Second Language in several schools in Kingsport. Steve also auditioned for and was cast as "Herb' in the Northeast State Theater production of GODSPELL. In the midst of a busy rehearsal schedule, he and Laura did manage some other great getaways including taking a trip with brother Garrett and their good friends the Smiths to the Wilderness in the Smokies indoor water park in Sevierville.
Of course, with season passes to both Dollywood and the Knoxville Zoo (and with a new cousin to visit often), I think a monthly trip to Knoxville or Pigeon Forge happened all year.
In February, Steve and Laura managed to take Garrett to both the Biltmore Estate and hiking on the Roans and Grayson Highlands.
March brought the coming of Spring along with trips to both Nashville (just Steve and Laura) for the TNTESOL conference and to Charleston (with Garrett and yes, me at this point), for just relaxation and fun. Garrett got to visit the popular South Carolina aqarium as well as a beach outside Mt. Pleasant.
April rolled around and was highlighted by a visit from Steve's parents to see his GODSPELL performance over Easter weekend
and at the end of the month, all the Hendrixes celebrated Laura's birthday in style. With a show done, and the end of the school year on the horizon, summer plans were eagerly in the works. May of course saw the end of another successful school year along with the invasion of the 14 year Cicadas!! They were everywhere. Steve enjoyed a weekend with some of his "Wild at Heart" brothers to help his old roomie Joby celebrate his 40th birthday and Garrett completed his first year of preschool at Central Baptist in style. Laura enjoyed hosting a baby shower for her good friend Erin and with the school year closing, Steve and Laura got away to Asheville for their 7th anniversary. Summer 2012 was officially deemed "Garrett's Summer of Splash and Sesame Street". It began in early June with his 2nd Sesame Street themed birthday bash in the Humphrey backyard,
continued with hanging out with some beloved stuffed animals at a cabin in Boone for the annual Hendrix family vacation. The cabin was located up the road from Tweetsie Railroad where Garrett got to ride Thomas the train engine (he loves Thomas).
At the end of June, Garrett made his 2nd great road trip of the summer when he visited Nana and Pop Humphrey in Fayetteville followed by a 3 night getaway at the Litchfied Beach and Golf Resort south of Myrtle Beach.
Then, after a funtime on the 4th of July (though the fireworks were a bit scary) and running his first race at FunFest, the big trip finally arrived!! Garret, Steve and Laura made the long journey to Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA where G got to meet all of his favorite characters live and in person.
En route, the whole family visited their friends Maggie and Joel Bales (who they had met in Jamaica the previous Thanksgiving) and then shared their visit to the "Street" with their good friends, the Kauffmanns. It was a great trip but of course, returning home meant that another school year was soon to begin. Of course, that didn't bother Laura so much, she only had to work about 5 weeks because when September 13th rolled around, so did I!! Yes, me Caroline.
I officially joined the Humphrey family just 8 days before Daddy's 40th birthday!! Mommy managed to throw him a great surprise party early - good thing to as I came along just 6 short days later. Everyone was excited to see me arrive. Mommy did a great job making my nursery cozy and ready for me. Of course, I did my share of waking up in the middle of the night. But, hey, what is a new born for? Mommy took the rest of the semester off and Daddy even hung out with me for my first 3 weeks of life. So, you can imagine that the rest of September and October was focused mostly on taking care of me and getting me to sleep
so usual fall activities were put on hold though we did manage to make it to Ashevile to visit friends and to Knoxville to visit family and attend Boo at the Zoo. Brother Garrett really enjoyed that as we decked out in his Superman outfit. Of course, a couple of days later, he and Daddy dressed up as pirates while Mommy and I made a nice bunny and carrot.
Yes, I was Caroline the Carrot. Daddy spent some of the fall assisting the youth at church with some drama stuff and when Thanksgiving rolled around in early November, I finally got to meet my Nana and PopPop Humphrey.
I was thankful for them as well as to be dedicated to the Lord at church. Of course, Thanksgiving meant Christmas was just around the corner - my very first!! I got to see the lights at Dollywood, watch Daddy play the Grinch at Highlands Christian Fellowship in Abingdon,
and after a special time wth brother and Hendrixes nearby,
I went all the way to Mrytle Beach to meet all my other new aunts, uncles and cousins at last - the 2nd annual end of year Humphrey gathering.
It has indeed been an eventful 2012 and I can't wait to be alive in the outside world for a whole year in 2013 and see what things come my way. Who knows? Maybe, I'll get to meet some of you someday!!
