Left I-65 just 75 miles from Chicago and headed west to rejoin Route 66 at Dwight.
Took a look at downtown Dwight as an early alignment of the route had gone through the town whereas it now skirts the edge of town. It was very quiet with businesses closed due to Memorial Day but there was a cool triangular building built in the 1800s. On my way out of town I spotted the collection of pumps and signs by the building with the mural of the Ferrari.
On my way through Odell I decided to stop and take a photo of myself in front of the restored Standard Oil gas station.
I had a brief stop in Lexington to rest at a walkway and park created from the original road. Towanda also has a stretch of the original road it has preserved and has a geographical journey with exhibits for each state the route travels through. I walked the mile up and mile back that the exhibits are spread over.
My final destination for the day was Bloomington where I left the route on Friday. I ate at the Lucca Grill which was founded in 1936 by the Baldini brothers who named it after their home town in Italy. I had fried ravioli followed by the A La Baldini pizza which has sausage, pepperoni, ham, onions, mushroom, green peppers and pepperoncini on a very thin crust - it was fantastic.
Temperature today peaked at 90F.
