Hello to everybody. I guess its about time you got another update here, since I haven't written anything for about a month. As it happens I am not actually in Perth (as you can see from the above date), but have now been back in Sydney for the last 3 weeks...but that you'll hear about later.

After my brief visit to the outback, I flew on to Perth on the west coast with the intention of probably stopping there for a couple of months in order to work. I spent most of time there in two minds, trying to decide whether I liked the area enough to do this or if I would prefer to head back to the East coast and spend my whole 6 months of work just in Sydney. Well as I've already said the latter won out and so far I have been very happy with my decision.

Perth has the reputation of being the most laid back of the big Australian cities, and though I didn't feel this from the off, after a few days it becomes easy to see why it has gained this reputation. As far as the cities go, it doesn't feel all that big. There are not so many high-rises and the pace of life seems much less frenetic.

I spent one day visiting Freemantle, which is just a little down the coast and seems much more historic than the city centre. On another day I took a boat out to Rottnest Island. And for another couple of days I did some exploring of the closer suburbs and the huge Kings Park. It is all very nice and quite tranquil, but did I want to stay there for 2 or 3 months? I kinda felt like I'd exhausted many of my options for exploration within the week.

There are some really interesting galleries, and I have found myself throughout my travels becoming more and more interested in seeing these, and developing an understanding of what is going on in different places and cultures. In this respect I think I am really starting to develop my outlook and artistic vision, and am learning a lot about how to look at works.

I have met people from so many different places, like the guy in the above photo who is from South Korea, who I got on really well with and provided me with the opportunity to sample home-made Korean food. I have seen a huge amount of historical and cultural sights, and I can feel myself learning all the time. But after moving around for four and a half months almost constantly, it is now time to stop and to learn from the differing experiences that come with being in one place for a decent period of time. And d'ya know what, I can't wait...

...back to Sydney we go...and it seems I may be seeing a few of you there.
