As I write this I still have the tomes of the Baywatch soundtrack running through my head, as after three days of that as the only music to listen to its kinda stuck...and yes, that is slightly annoying!
I have just returned from Fraser Island, where I have been driving around the world's biggest sand island. Its certainly an interesting social experiment. Stick 10 complete strangers in a 4 wheel drive together, give them a few tents, a bbq and a map, and cross your fingers that they'll get on.
As it turned out it was a lot of fun, and we all got on really well. My group consisted of 4 English girls, 2 Korean girls, a French guy, 2 Germans and myself. Since you have to be over 21 and have held a driving licence for over 2 years it meant I ended up as the primary driver
The impression I had got before hand was that it was an Island, purely made of sand and with some vicious Dingoes running around, which made me wonder what the huge appeal was. So many people I met heading North had said that it was the best thing they've done though that I figured it had to be worth a go. The island is actually huge, we only covered a small part of it, with beautiful lakes hidden away in large areas of rainforest, and with some interesting tracks to navigate to get through.
We weren't exactly the best group at planning, and managed to shorten doing some of the better things because we spent too long doing lesser things, but the trip wasn't without experiences and the random aspect added to the intrigue. On the first day of driving my accelerator cable decided to come apart whilst I was driving up hill. We had to tie that together with string for the next 2 days. Then the supposed 4x4 car decided it would just be a 2 wheel drive for us, meaning we kept getting stuck in the deep sand and had to push it out every time.
All this added to the fun though, and whilst some of the other groups we passed looked a bit morbid at times, we were happily singing along with Mr. Hasselhoff, as this was the only cassette tape we could get hold of.
We saw Dingo (thats a native wild dog by the way), Dolphin, a Snake and Whales. Camping at night meant fabulous clear skies and its blanket of stars, whilst attempting to whip up the proper Ozzie Barbie with a few Stubbies in the dark.
Beautiful island, but I guess what you really take away is the experience...and that was a lot of fun.

. That was cool though, I quite liked the power it gave me.
