BYOF-Bring your own Fish
Entry 28 of 34 | show all | print this entry |
Fethiye is a very old town in a broad bay on the Aegean coast. The inner bay is apparently an excellent natural harbour, protected from storms by a large island, with many other islands in the bay. Just south of Fethiye is Oludeniz, another of Turkey's seaside hotspots.
We have just done the 12 island tour, a boat trip around Fethiye Bay where we stopped at six islands and cruised by the rest.
The best thing we have done here so far is to get a taste of the fabulous fish by bringing our own! Just follow the smells to the market, browse the day's offerings, and choose a fish or two. Then you bring your fish to one of the rows of restaurants that surround the market and ask them to cook it. They charge you a small amount to do so, but you get a green salad, bread with garlic butter, a sauce for your fish, plus fruit and coffee! Awesome.
We continue to head south...just south of here are the big time resorts of Kalkan, Kas and Olympos...these are all more for the affluent packaged-holiday people than budget travellers like us...but we do hope to make it to Patara, birthplace of St. Nick and home to a splendid beach!
