We have setled into life in the sleepy little village of Charlotteville...it really is delightful.

And although we have had our share of challenges thus far (no luggage for several days, problems with the rental vehicle, the unreliability of the local public transportation, and accommodation that is not quite what we expected) we are making the most of our time here.  The real bummer has been the rain...everyone says it is very unusual since this is usually the dry season!

The title of this entry has some meaning...there are no screens whatsoever on the bungalow (and the mosquito net is an absolute must at night since everything is "open air")...Even the birds, bats and hummingbirds have all come into our little bungalow to escape the torrential rains! At first we scrambled to get them to fly out, now we just let them fly around...

Our biggest recent disppointment is that it seems that one of the couples on the charter to sail the Grenadines has backed out, which makes it really prohibitive for us cost-wise....we are hoping the charter people will find two more people and we can still go for our last week here.

If not, we plan to head to Crown Point and explore a bit there before we fly home and get things in order for our Turkey trip.  That is the one positive about the rain...lots of time for planning the route in Turkey.

Thus far it looks like this:

London for a couple of days, then into Istanbul.

We will stay there a few days and then start to wend our way south down the West coast.  We will visit Bursa and then head to Cannakkale (Troy.)  After that we will head south to Bergama (Pergamum) and just keep going.  We will stop at Pummakkale (Hieropolis) and then hope to get inland to Lake Egirdir before hitting the coastal towns of Bodrum, Marmaris, Fethiye.  There we are looking forward to getting to Ephesus. After that we will head on to Antalya, and Konya en route to Goreme in Cappadoccia.  Then a stop in the capital of Ankara before heading back to Istanbul, and on to London for a few more days and then home.

So as you can see we are already dreaming of kebabs and raki!
