The bus..it come when it come, mon!
Entry 8 of 34 | show all | print this entry |
Those of you who have lived on a Caribbean island (Tom and Rub) will appreciate this one...
So yesterday we had to return the rental vehicle to Crown Point.
We were asked to get it back by ten so we had to leave here by 7 or so since we wanted to do a couple of errands first. We had called about returning it, but got no answer by phone. Then we went by the place and the gates were locked. Tried again by phone...no answer. We finally took it to the broker and left it there. This is normal on the island...opening hours always say "anyday, anytime" which literally means, "Maybe yes, maybe no."
When we asked about getting back, they said it would be no problem by public transportation...in fact we were lucky: there was a bus to Scarborough station at 9:30 and then a bus to Charlotteville at noon.
Well the 9:30 bus...that never came! Finally we got that bus at 11:00 or so. That still got us to Scarborough in time for the noon bus...well. the noon bus never came either! When we asked people at the station, they said maybe there would be one at 2:30 and probably the noon had been cancelled. We had a conversation with a couple there who said the busses are so unreliable that some days people just stay home from work...
Well, the 12:00/2:30 bus finally came at just before three and we got back to Charlotteville at about 4:15. This means that it took us 9.5 hours to return the car about 50 kilometres! Island time, mon.
This is what we are up against so we are trying to go with the flow. This and the constant rain will explain to many of you how we've managed to go through at least a case of stag, a bottle of local rum, a bottle of vodka, and a bottle of bourbon already!
The internet is slow and expensive so no photos for now...as the say here over and over...maybe later, mon!
