Well we made it to Tobago...it sure was not an easy trip!

We'll have more to post later but just wanted everyone to know we are here.  Our luggage has not yet made it so things are a little touchy but at least we are waiting ocean front!

The island is only about 26 miles long and is home to just over 50,000 inhabitants. mostly of African descent.

The drive up the windward road from Crown Point was as meandering as it gets.  Imagine it taking an hour and half to go that distance and you will get the picture.  It takes you through the heart of the rural Caribbean, snaking along the Atlantic coastline, sweeping up and down through sleepy villages.  People all watch you and try to flag you down for a ride, from porches, roadside parlours and rum shops.

Goats are grazing along the shoulder and chickens roam all around the wooden homes precariously perched on the steep hillsides.  Speyside lookout was breathtaking...a panorama of the bay's shifting torquoise seas, spray covered islets...you can see Goat Island and Little Tobago.

After Speyside the road cut inland and across the north coast to take us to our home for the next month:  Charlotteville.  There is a huge hairpin descent into this little fishing village with colourful homes tumbling down the hillside to the waters of Man o War Bay...There you see only blue water and a flotilla of pirogues and diving pelicans!

We'll hope to tell more after a day or two when we get more settled in.  Right now we are trying not to curse Delta too much and just trying to get on island time!

Cheers!
