We continue to love Granada. People are friendly and helpful and interesting. Most every night in the parque central we have nice discussions with people of all kinds. The gorgeous climate and the absence of bugs makes sitting in the plaza absolutely beautiful at night.

This morning we went out for a desayuno tipico...breakfast of eggs, rice and beans, etc and a little boy sat down next to us and asked to eat the rice and beans left on Paul's plate. When we agreed he picked up Paul's fork as fast as humanly possible and ate like crazy.

He then said it was muy picante since Paul had loaded the hot sauce to it...when we then gave him a cafe con leche and some coke to cool off his mouth, and he got a grin as big as the plate! His smile and a gracias are the small things that help us to appreciate this part of the world.

Pablo is still chatting up the local tobacco rollers so he can get the best robustos or churchills or torpedos possible before we leave for Ometepe in a day or two.

For those of you asking about our accommodation: we stay mostly in hospedajes, or guest houses. A so-called bed or room can range from a dorm or a hammock to a concrete or wooden bungalow.

Most are small and family-run and much more fun than a hotel. That being said, staying in hospedajes also means that you can always count on a night or more in a dumpy bed betwixt four walls smeared with mosquito remains and a smelly leaky faucet and shower, thankfully, usually down the hall.

Another sure thing is that even when it is advertised, there is no agua caliente...so itīs been a while since weīve had a hot shower. This is not a problem here in Nicaragua though where itīs so hot that a cold shower is just fine.

Another interesting aspect is when the ad says hot water, it is an electric shower...a cold water shower head juiced by an electric heating element. Yep...you need to be sure not to touch it or anything metal while in there or you are sure to get one big shock.

As much as we love Granada, we move on soon to an island in the middle of a huge lake, called Ometepe. We expect to hike and horseback ride and then get a little beach time in San Juan before the long haul to the cloud forest in Costa Rica.
