Taupo to Napier

We had breakfast at the hotel, then packed up and went to the supermarket before setting out for Napier. It was raining at first, but soon cleared up and we enjoyed some scenic views as we drove through the mountains. We stopped for a picnic lunch then continued to Napier. Rhian had chosen a good hotel, right on the ocean with a double whirlpool tub in each room.
We went for a walk along the shore, then to the museum to see an exhibit about the earthquake and fire which destroyed Napier in 1931. We walked back to the hotel along the Marine Parade which was lined with huge Norfolk Pines and beautiful flower beds. We had dinner at a restaurant called 'Take Five', which was in one of the few houses that survived the earthquake. A builder had built the row of houses for his six daughters, so they are called the six sisters.
